January Jubilations
As we have settled into the year of 2022, here at the Maltby's of Chester we thought we would share our January Jubilations by announcing our 75th anniversary.
Let us look back through the years and celebrate together some of the faces, old and new, trends of notable decades and our journey as a Chester family business.

Where better to begin, than where it all began?
It was exiting this decade when we were first found our feet, and the world looked vastly different to the norms of today. In fact, Brook Street has seen its fair share of change:

Around this time, it would have been popular to see rugs in homes over carpets, especially with the ‘make do and mend attitude.’ It was only nearing the end of this decade when textile machinery was improving and the use of materials in carpet shifted to something still commonly used to this day, Nylon and Acrylic yarn, which ultimately changed the carpet industry forever.

The people still love blue!
An interior trend that has followed through the 2020’s is an old-fashioned and modern convergence creating a hybrid interior into your home. For a while now you may have noticed a craving for the vintage. Well, in response to the politics of today people are living for the up-cycled and the antique. Paired with the perfect sort of flooring can make or break this modern take on the past.
So, stay bold in blue and if you are looking for a carpet to blend a sophisticated elegance with and modern clean-cut finish, we have just the right style for you.

Let us fast forward to the swinging sixties, were we start to see more patterns and textures emerging. This decade immortalises a groovy, colourful, and dynamic approach to the interior, which was influenced by the hippie movement and the space age.
Not exactly the same influences as seen today!
Stripes in the Lobby:

We have seen a huge popularity and demand for stripes, block colour and green in the homes recently, is this a retro resurgence?
Here are some hand-picked looks that we can help bring the 60’s look into your home and freshen up your interior ready for February.

Neon lights, Animal patterns and botanical wallpaper?
Sounds like a hot mess, but order can be found when mix and matching your designs with a calming carpet.
When using busy and compact patterns in interior textiles or wallpaper, it merges well when isolating a specific colour from your pattern’s design and using in your flooring choice whatever the material, laminates, rugs, or carpet.
The botanical look which predates the nineties, has been a successfully popular trend used in homes and hospitality, and continues to flourish. With recent events of the pandemic many have found comfort by creating a calming environment by bringing the outdoors indoors.
It’s all about the wood:

If you are wanting a more natural look, then you cannot go wrong with a wooden floor. The use of wood blends that natural-raw look with home comforts leaving it then up to you how you dress it.
The popularity of wood has never died, especially with its versatility, durability, and overall timeless look. It can be used to add character to a room or even create a more toned-down feel.
