Interior Inspiration

Colour can make or break a space and it is often difficult to decide what best suits certain rooms.

In most cases it is about energy levels of the space you wish to create, and you may not realise, but colour’s role ties in significantly and has a profound influence.

This can be used to your advantage!

The psychology of colour has been studied for hundreds of years and in these studies have shown how colour invokes emotional responses in people and sets particular moods.

This blog will show different interior design colour palettes and help you to create the right sort of atmosphere for your rooms this February. Whilst keeping up with latest design trends, and just because we are feeling the festivities of the Winter Olympics 2022, we will use the colours of the Olympics Rings to guide the colour palettes.

If you are thinking of using this colour in your home's interior than the bedroom or bathroom would be the best choice. Blue is the ‘colour of calming’ and creates a tranquil environment.

Investigation into this colour's effects have suggested it can lower blood pressure and slows respiration, perfect for both places of rest and productivity with work. With a diverse range of shades, it is one of the most versatile of colours creating a timeless look. Blue has been a popular colour choice during the art deco interior trend that has been seen through the course of the 2020’s so far.

To energise your rooms in a cheerful optimistic way, use yellow. It is hard to feel down in a space that is sunny and bright.

"How wonderful yellow is. It stands for the sun." -Vincent Van Gogh

There are several rooms you can utilise this colour, these include, the Living room, Bathroom, Kitchen and Dining room.

With the jazzy patterns and colours of the 70’s making a reappearance last year and following through to this year, it is the perfect time to experiment with shades of yellow and other warm colours in this spectrum.

Trends of Yellow

Yellow is a very pleasant colour to work with when it comes to deciding the flooring. In bright spaces you cannot go wrong with some patterns in your flooring whether it is wood, tile, carpet or vinyl.

To create that ‘retro’ aesthetic in your home, vinyl might be the flooring for you. As, it comes in many different forms making it suitable for any room; from wood looks to decorative patterns it is one of the most versatile flooring choices.

Looking for a bit of edge? Best in small doses this colour is effective in the accents of the room and overall grounds your colour scheme. When used in a space black is often associated with elegance and when paired with any colour, it can have a dramatic effect.

Black accents you can add in neutral spaces, that can add dimension are furniture, home accessories and framing (doors & windows). One of the most striking uses of black would be flooring. The classic black and white tile look is something that is trending and when used in the hallway, can be a stunning first impression for those entering your home.

Restful and bringing a stress relieving atmosphere to your space, green is the one to create a relaxing environment. Green is like blue in the sense that it has a wide range of shades, is dependent upon the way it reacts to light in a space and is soothing to the eye.

Spaces it works well in would be the bedroom, living room and kitchen, all locations that would benefit from the colour of nature. Green has become one of the most popular colours to use in interior design since the pandemic. As, many have adopted bringing the outdoors indoors to tackle the lack of freedom or to create comfortable work-from-home space.

It’s all about the houseplants! Houseplant's popularity has risen over the course of a few years and is one of the best ways to control levels of green in spaces throughout your home and overall looks super inviting.

Trends of Green

Never boring and passionate it is the most energising of colours to use in interior design, red can bring a new sense of life to any space! Research into red has shown it can increase appetite. Due to this colour’s influence, it is used in many brands from food to technology.

Red is favoured as an accent in modern interior design as it is a bold splash of colour that compliments monochrome spaces like no other colour can.

So, if you can guess from what has been said, it is ideal for dining rooms, living rooms and even hallways, but it can spice up any room realistically. Get experimental this February!
